Ingredients
- 1 teacup semolina
- 1 teacup vegetable oil
- 1 teacup minus one finger’s width of powdered sugar
- 1 egg
- Half a teacup of a mixture of crushed hazelnuts and walnuts
- 1 packet vanilla
- 1 packet baking powder
- 1.5 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1.5 cups flour
- 1.5 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- 3 drops lemon juice
- Hazelnuts and almonds, to taste
Preparation
- First, let’s boil the syrup. Squeeze 3 drops of lemon juice into the boiling syrup, bring it to a boil one more time, and set it aside to cool.
- Place all the ingredients except the flour in a bowl and mix them together.
- Gradually add the flour. Pinch off walnut-sized pieces and shape them.
- Coat the shaped dough pieces in semolina, place a hazelnut or almond on top, and bake in a preheated oven until they turn golden brown.
- Once we’ve removed the baking sheet from the oven, use a spoon to pour the cooled syrup first over each piece individually, then evenly pour the remainder over the entire sheet.
- Serve the sugar cookies, which have absorbed the syrup, with clotted cream or ice cream as desired.
