FOR THE DOUGH: 125 g butter or margarine, 1 egg, 1 tablespoon vinegar, 1 teacup semolina, 1 teacup finely chopped walnuts, 1.5 cups flour (add gradually), 1 packet baking powder, 1 packet vanilla. FOR THE SYRUP: 2 cups granulated sugar, 2.5 cups water, a few drops of lemon juice. (Teacup measurement: 100 ml / Water glass measurement: 200 ml)
Preparation
First, prepare the syrup: Put water and sugar in a saucepan and stir until the sugar dissolves, then boil for about 10 minutes. Squeeze in lemon juice, remove from heat, and let it cool. ⚠️ The syrup must be completely cold. For the dough, add butter, eggs, semolina, walnuts, vinegar, baking powder, vanilla, and flour and knead. Add the flour carefully — the dough should be soft and not sticky. Divide the dough into 20 equal pieces, shape them as shown in the video, and make incisions with a knife. Arrange them in a greased baking dish. Bake in a preheated oven at 175 degrees Celsius for 35 minutes. Remove the baked pastries from the oven and let them cool slightly. THE SECRET HERE: Pour the cold syrup over the warm pastries. (Other syrup-based desserts use lukewarm syrup — this recipe does the opposite.) Let it rest for 2 hours. After this time, you can serve it. Enjoy!
