For the cake: 1 cup dried figs (finely chopped) 1 cup lukewarm water (to soften the figs) 3 eggs 1 cup granulated sugar 1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 packet baking powder For the custard: 1 liter milk 1 cup granulated sugar 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour 2 tablespoons cornstarch 1 packet vanilla sugar 1 tablespoon butter For soaking: 1 cup milk For topping (optional): Coconut flakes or walnuts
Preparation
1. Prepare the figs: Soak the chopped figs in 1 cup of lukewarm water for 10-15 minutes. Drain the water. 2. Prepare the cake: Beat the eggs and sugar until frothy. Add the figs and walnuts. Add the flour and baking powder and mix. Pour into a greased medium-sized baking pan. Bake at 170°C (350°F) for 25-30 minutes. 3. Soaking: Pour 1 cup of milk over the hot cake after it comes out of the oven. Let it sit to absorb the milk. 4. Custard: Combine the milk, sugar, flour, and cornstarch in a saucepan. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened. Remove from heat and add the butter and vanilla. 5. Assembling: Pour the custard over the cake and smooth it out. Let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate. 6. Serving: After resting for at least 2-3 hours, sprinkle with coconut or walnuts and slice.
