Fake Cezerye

A delicious recipe packed with carrots that’s very easy to make and tastes just as good as the real thing.

Ingredients
  • 4 carrots
  • 1 package of Pötibör cookies
  • 1 teaspoon of butter
  • 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teacup of water
  • 2 tablespoons of molasses
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 teacup of shredded coconut
  • 1 teacup of chopped walnuts
Preparation
  1. To make “Yalancı Cezerye”: Peel 4 medium carrots and grate them using the fine side of a grater. Place 1 teaspoon of butter in a medium, wide saucepan and melt it. Add the grated carrots to the melted butter and sauté for 3 minutes.
  2. Next, add 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar and half a teacup of water to the carrots.
  3. Cook until the carrots are thoroughly softened and have absorbed all the liquid. Then remove from heat and let cool.
  4. Meanwhile, process 1 package of Pötibör cookies in a food processor until finely ground. We used double-toasted Pötibör cookies in this recipe.
  5. Next, transfer the cooled carrot mixture to a medium-sized, wide bowl. Add the processed cookies, 1 tea glass of shredded coconut, 1 tea glass of chopped walnuts, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 2 tablespoons of molasses.
  6. Knead all the ingredients thoroughly by hand until they form a dough.
  7. Next, place the cezerye mixture on the bottom of a small square baking dish and spread it evenly with your hands. You can line the dish with plastic wrap to make it easier to remove. Let the cezerye chill in the refrigerator for about 25 minutes so you can cut it easily.
  8. Next, slice it with a knife and use a spatula to remove the slices. Coat both sides of the carrot cezerye slices in shredded coconut.
  9. You can now serve your homemade cezerye.
