Stale Bread Dessert (Cypriot Dessert)? This recipe, which appears in the cookbooks of dozens of people, and...
Ingredients
- 3 eggs
- 1 tea glass of vegetable oil
- 1 tea glass of sugar
- 1 water glass of chopped walnuts
- 1 water glass of dried bread, processed in a blender (or 1 glass of breadcrumbs)
- A pinch of cinnamon
- 1 packet of baking powder
- 2 cups of water, minus one finger’s width
- 1 packet of vanilla
- 1 liter of milk
- 1 cup of cornstarch
- 1 packet of whipped cream mix
- 1 packet of coconut (25-gram packet)
Preparation
- Since we’ll be pouring it while it’s cold, let’s make the syrup first. Pour the sugar and water into a saucepan; once it comes to a boil, turn off the heat, add the vanilla, and set it aside to cool.
- For the cake: Beat the sugar and eggs thoroughly, then add the remaining ingredients. Mix one last time, pour the batter into a large, greased square baking dish, and bake in a preheated 170-degree oven for about 20 minutes (baking times may vary depending on the oven, so keep an eye on it).
- While the cake is baking, let’s make the cream. Add all the ingredients except the whipped cream to a saucepan and cook while stirring.
- Once the cream is cooked, turn off the heat, add the whipped cream, and beat with a mixer for 2–3 minutes. Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and pour the cooled syrup over it.
- Let it cool, then spread the cream evenly over the lukewarm cake and sprinkle coconut on top.
- Chill in the refrigerator for about 2 hours, and it’s ready to serve.
