Gotka Difse (Molasses Dessert)
Gotka Difse (Grape Molasses Dessert)? This recipe, which appears in dozens of people's cookbooks, and...
Ingredients
- 6 cups wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups lukewarm water
- 500 grams walnut kernels
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- A little flour
- 1 liter of grape molasses (5 cups)
- 4 cups of water (tap water)
Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, gradually add the flour, salt, and water while kneading until you have a slightly firm dough.
- Then cover it and let it rest for about 10 minutes; while it’s resting, we’ll prepare the walnuts.
- Grind the walnuts in a food processor until they’re powdery, then transfer them to a bowl. Add sugar and cinnamon, mix well, and set aside.
- Sprinkle some flour on the baking sheet (to taste), take the dough, roll it into walnut-sized balls, fill each with the walnut mixture, and shape them as shown in the picture. Place them on the floured baking sheet—I made a total of 33 pieces—and set them aside.
- For the syrup, add the molasses and water to a large pot, stir, and place it on the stove. Once it starts to boil vigorously, add the shaped sweets one by one.
- Stir occasionally. After it has been boiling for 15 minutes, remove from the heat and serve.
