Mandarin Orange Etimek Dessert

Tangerine-Flavored Etimek Dessert? This recipe and...

Ingredients
  • 1 package of unsalted breadcrumbs
  • 1.5 cups of granulated sugar
  • 1.5 or 2 cups of water
  • 1 liter of milk
  • 3 heaping tablespoons of cornstarch
  • 2 heaping tablespoons of flour
  • 1 teaspoon of butter or margarine
  • 1 packet of vanilla
  • 2 cups freshly squeezed mandarin orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
Preparation
  1. Arrange the etimek in a baking dish.
  2. For the syrup, place the sugar in a saucepan. Stir it over the heat until it melts and changes color slightly.
  3. Carefully add water to the melted sugar. The sugar will harden, but don’t worry—just stir it occasionally until it dissolves.
  4. Pour the prepared syrup over the etimek.
  5. For the cream: Place the milk, sugar, flour, and cornstarch in a saucepan and cook until it comes to a boil and thickens.
  6. Remove from the heat and add the butter and vanilla. Stir until the butter melts while the mixture is still hot.
  7. Pour the hot cream over the etimek, which have absorbed the syrup, and let it cool.
  8. For the mandarin orange sauce: Combine freshly squeezed mandarin orange juice, cornstarch, and sugar in a saucepan and cook until it thickens.
  9. Pour it over the lukewarm cream. Smooth the top and let it sit until it reaches room temperature.
  10. Once the dessert has reached room temperature, place it in the refrigerator and let it set for 5–6 hours. After that time, slice it and decorate as desired.
